Archaeological Site of Igiliz
Located approximately 60 km southeast of Taroudannt and 180 km from Agadir, the archaeological site of Igiliz sits at an altitude of 1,354 meters in the Anti-Atlas mountains. It offers breathtaking scenery and holds significant historical importance as the birthplace of the Almohad movement in the 12th century. From this fortress, Ibn Tumart, the movement’s founder, orchestrated the revolt that led to the fall of the Almoravids and the rise of the Almohad dynasty, which ruled large parts of the Maghreb and Andalusia.
To preserve this historically significant site, the SDRT Souss-Massa has undertaken projects to improve access and enhance its tourist appeal.
- Improvement of access roads to the site
- Construction of a parking area and installation of sanitation facilities
- Creation of rest stops
- Installation of interpretive panels
