Rehabilitation of the Ouled Bounouna Gate

Rehabilitation of the Ouled Bounouna Gate

As one of the five iconic gates of Taroudannt, the Ouled Bounouna Gate is a testament to the city’s historical and cultural legacy. While it originally served as a commercial gateway connecting Taroudannt to Marrakech via the High Atlas, the gate’s distinctive architecture reflects its role beyond mere defense.

To preserve this historic landmark, SDRT Souss-Massa, with the support of the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation and technical guidance from CERKAS and the Regional Directorate of Culture, undertook a comprehensive restoration. The project also transformed the site into a cultural hub, providing educational opportunities for local youth.

SDRT Intervention Scope
  • Full restoration of the gate’s structure
  • Equipping the space for cultural and educational activities
