Tourism Development of Rock Arts in Tata

Tourism Development of Rock Arts in Tata

The province of Tata is renowned for possessing the largest concentration of rock art sites in Morocco. Locations such as “Imaoun, Tiggane, Oum la Leg, Adrar Metgourine” showcase a rich variety of rock engravings and paintings that date back several millennia, likely from prehistory to antiquity. These artworks are generally attributed to various historical periods, ranging from the Neolithic to the onset of the historical era, during which the region’s climatic conditions were more conducive to human habitation.

While some of these sites remain relatively intact, they are susceptible to natural erosion and human activities that may lead to vandalism or unintentional damage. To safeguard this significant heritage, the SDRT Souss-Massa has commissioned a study titled “Souss-Massa Rock Arts,” with the objective of showcasing and promoting this remarkable provincial heritage.

SDRT Intervention Initiatives:
  • Creation of tourist circuits to enhance the visibility of rock art in the Province of Tata.
  • Identification of rock engraving sites.
  • Proposal for the rehabilitation of three rock art conservation areas.
