The Ammelne Valley

The Ammelne Valley

Ammelne Valley is located in the heart of the western Anti-Atlas, near the town of Tafraout. This valley stretches across a wide green plain at the foot of Jbel El Kest, known for its towering cliffs and sharp rock formations in striking shades of pink. The valley is home to more than twenty traditional douars (villages), characterized by local architecture that harmoniously blends with the mountainous landscape, offering visitors a rich and diverse natural setting.

Overlooking the valley is the famous “Lion’s Head,” a natural rock formation whose contours resemble the features of a lion’s face, with a proud gaze seemingly watching over this natural paradise from the mountain heights. It is considered one of the valley’s most iconic natural landmarks.

As part of the efforts to enhance this natural and cultural heritage, the Souss Massa Regional Tourism Development Company has launched a project to create a 500-meter scenic walking path along the section linking Tafraout to Ammelne Valley. This promenade is designed to serve as a rest and contemplation area in the heart of this breathtaking landscape.

Scope of SDRT’s Intervention
  • Development of a pedestrian promenade along the road: rehabilitation of the existing section with extension;
  • Construction of kiosks and sanitary facilities;
  • Installation of directional signage;
  • Installation of outdoor lighting;
  • Landscaping: outdoor areas and green spaces;
  • Provision of urban furniture and children’s play areas;
  • Installation of a misting system and a photovoltaic station.
