Wintimdouine Cave
Located in the Western High Atlas at an altitude of 1,250 meters and 70 km northeast of Agadir, the Wintimdouine Cave is one of Africa’s largest caves. Spanning over 19 km of galleries, it houses the region’s largest underground water reserve, featuring an underground river and numerous pools of stagnant water.
Speleological expeditions have uncovered a rich and diverse fauna, while the surrounding landscapes offer exceptional vistas of the valley and mountains, making this site a prominent tourist attraction for local, national, and international visitors.
To enhance accessibility and appeal for tourists, the cave has undergone a tourism development project, resulting from a partnership between SDR Tourism, the National Agency for Water and Forests, the Souss Massa Hydraulic Basin Agency, and the Municipality of Idmine. The financing for this project is provided by the Souss Massa Regional Council. Significant developments have been implemented by SDR Tourism, including:
- Development of the cave entrance
- Surfacing of the existing basin and its surroundings
- Construction of a parking lot with light structures, including kiosks, toilets, and a snack area
- Installation of benches for landscape contemplation
