Holding of the Board of Directors meeting of the Regional Tourism Development Company (SDR Tourisme Souss Massa)

The Souss Massa Regional Tourism Development Company (SDR Tourisme Souss Massa) held its Board of Directors meeting on March 30, 2026, to present and approve the company’s activity report for the 2025 financial year, as well as to present the 2026 action plan and provisional budget.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Saaïd AMZAZI, Wali of the Souss Massa Region and Chairman of the Board, in the presence of Board members and the Chief Executive Officer.

In his opening remarks, the Wali highlighted the particularly favorable context experienced by the tourism sector in 2025, both at the national and regional levels.

Regional tourism: remarkable performance

At the regional level, the destinations of Agadir and Taghazout recorded more than 1.5 million tourist arrivals (+9% compared to 2024) and over 6.3 million overnight stays (+7.65% compared to 2024). The occupancy rate of classified tourist accommodation establishments exceeded 66%.

The Wali commended the strong mobilization of all regional stakeholders for the successful organization of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Agadir, one of the six host cities. In this regard, he emphasized the richness of the entertainment and cultural program implemented during this period, with a significant contribution from SDR Tourisme.

Deployment of the Integrated Territorial Development Program

The Wali also stressed the rollout of the Integrated Territorial Development Program (PDTI) across the Souss Massa region, in line with the royal vision launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This program aims at the overall upgrading of territories, the enhancement of local potential, and job creation. He underlined the key role of tourism in socio-economic development and employment generation.

He invited SDR Tourisme to fully align with this new generation of programs by consolidating its ongoing tourism development projects across the region.

2025: a year of major achievements for SDR Tourisme

In 2025, SDR Tourisme Souss Massa recorded significant progress across several entrusted programs and projects, including:

  • Continued tourism development works across multiple sites and tourist circuits, such as Kasbah d’Aghennaj, Imouzzer center, Assif N Lhed cave, Ammelne promenade, Askaouen park, Tislit gorges rest area, Phase 2 of the Tiout palm grove, Reggada Ouled Jerra Ménara, Ait Baha park, and the site near Ahl Souss dam;
  • Progress in the development of tourism investment units in Anchor Point and Imsouane, as well as the Taghazout corniche;
  • Internal development of a strategic reflection to identify sites suitable for light eco-tourism between Taghazout and Imsouane, including implementation modalities;
  • Completion of the tourist information kiosks in Tata and Tiznit;
  • Continuation of renovation and upgrading programs for tourist accommodation establishments, benefiting 17 establishments in Agadir and 17 in rural areas;
  • Strengthening the management system of sites operated by SDR Tourisme: Kasbah of Agadir Oufella, Medina of Agadir, Agadir Beach Tourist Information Center, and Al Amal Tourist Information Kiosk.

These sites recorded strong visitor attendance, with daily averages of:

  • 532 visitors/day at the Medina of Agadir
  • 255 visitors/day at the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella
  • 185 visitors/day at the Tourist Information Center and kiosk

In addition, SDR Tourisme organized various cultural and tourism events across its managed sites and co-organized two major fairs dedicated to crafts and local products, held from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026, on the occasion of AFCON. These events brought together over 100 artisans and cooperatives and featured 168 demonstration workshops and 56 participatory workshops.

SDR Tourisme 2026 Program: new regional perspectives

For 2026, SDR Tourisme plans an ambitious program focused on:

  • Launching projects under the Urban Development Plan (PDU) of Taroudannt, including the lighting of the Medina walls, rehabilitation and illumination of historic gates, and tourist signage;
  • Continuing tourism development and enhancement actions for high-potential sites across the region;
  • Developing the first phases of the Imsouane and Aglou corniches;
  • Launching promotional campaigns to strengthen the Agadir Souss Massa destination;
  • Continuing renovation and upgrading programs for tourist accommodation establishments.

Approvals and strategic evolution

At the end of the meeting, the Board of Directors reviewed and approved all items on the agenda, including:

  • The company’s activity report for 2025;
  • The annual financial statements as of December 31, 2025;
  • The management report for the 2025 financial year;
  • The 2026 action plan and provisional budget;
  • The draft resolutions to be submitted to the next Ordinary General Assembly;
  • The expansion of the company’s mandate to fully assume its role as a development and planning agency.
